The Dangerous Ingredient in Your Almond Milk

May 5, 2022 by Anya Leave a Comment

If you buy almond milk because you prefer not to drink cow’s milk or you are lactose intolerant, you might be consuming more than almonds and water.

On your nutrition label of most store bought brands, you will more than likely see the following ingredients:

  • Tricalcium phosphate
  • Sunflower lecithin
  • Gellan gum
  • Potassium citrate
  • Vitamin A palmitate
  • Cane sugar
  • Carrageenan

Many food companies add “carrageenan” to health foods like almond milk, oat milk, coconut milk, yogurt, soy milk, and ice cream.  It prevents ingredients from separating, Carrageenan  is derived from red seaweed and added to give products a fuller consistency, especially low-fat products.

Apple Cider Vinegar lowers blood sugar levels better than Metformin (a popular anti-diabetic medication). This is what I take daily - here

Health Issues Linked to Carrageenan

According to Cornucopia Institute, the chemical structure of Carrageenan can trigger an immune response in the body which might lead to inflammation. Carrageenan’s chemical structure causes an immune response similar to that of bacteria like Salmonella.

It has been discovered that inflammation is the precursor to over 100 known diseases. In fact, in the1960s, scientists linked the food-grade version to GI diseases in lab animals.

People sensitive to carrageenan report experiencing “belly bloat,” diarrhea, cramps, vomiting, and nausea, as well as more severe reactions such as irritable bowel syndrome.

Additionally, Processed almond milk can contain many additives, such as sugar, salt, gums, flavors, and lecithin.

Xanthan and guar gum are two popular emulsifiers present in many non-dairy alternatives. They have been linked to weight gain and digestive problems. Xanthan gum is a thickening agent made by fermenting a yeast with corn or another sugar source. Guar gum comes from a bean plant, which is very hard to digest in such a processed form, regardless that it’s a source of fiber.

Vitamin A palmitate is another awful ingredient. It’s a synthetic vitamin that has been found to cause hair loss, allergies, liver toxicity and  to accelerate cancer growth.

Make Your Own Almond Milk

It’s very easy to make, requiring just 2 ingredients, 10 minutes, and a blender!

  • 1 cup raw almonds  (here) (soaked overnight in cool water // or 1-2 hours in very hot water)
  • 5 cups filtered water
  • 1 pinch sea salt

Instructions

  • Add your soaked almonds (find them here), water, salt to a high-speed blender and blend until creamy and smooth. Keep it running for at least 1-2 minutes so you get the most out of your almonds.
  • Strain using a nut milk bag – here
  • Transfer milk to a jar and refrigerate. You can store for up to 4-5 days, though best when fresh. Shake well before drinking, as it tends to separate.

Detox your body from these harmful chemicals

If you are looking to do a heavy metal toxin cleanse you should seriously consider using spirulina. The biology of spirulina allows it to naturally absorb toxic and unwanted heavy metals from your body. It is a very effective way to detox your body. The chlorophyll in spirulina cleanses the blood and allows the body to use oxygen more effectively. It neutralizes and excretes toxins.
