Top 7 Science Backed Health Benefits of Taking Collagen Supplements

July 8, 2018 by Anya 21 Comments

Today I would to like to give you my reasons why I take collagen peptides daily! I’ve been using collagen for 2 years  now and have definitely noticed differences . Collagen is very important because around 30% of the protein in our bodies is collagen and it basically holds us together!  Collagen is in our bones, muscles, tendons, and skin. After age 25, our bodies slowly stop producing collagen.   Unfortunately,we don’t get nearly enough in our diet so this is why we much take it as a supplement!

What is collagen, and why is it so important?

Collagen is a structural , hard, insoluble, and fibrous protein that makes up one-third of the protein in the human body. It provides support for connective tissues and holds the body together. Yes, it’s that important.

Find the best quality collagen peptides here

Reasons you should supplement with collagen every day!

1. Heals The Stomach.

Collagen is great for gut health and has been known to help conditions such as leaky gut, IBS, and more. It also helps repair the stomach’s mucous lining, which in turn helps the body to better break down the protein and fat in foods.

2. Strengthens Bones, Joints, and Cartilage.

A recent study assessed the efficiency of collagen peptides in a randomized, double blind, controlled multicenter trial, in which 250 subjects with primary osteoarthritis of the knee were given 10g of collagen peptides daily. The results showed a significant improvement in knee joint comfort, and again subjects with the greatest joint deterioration benefited most.

3. Collagen Peptides Promote Healthy Skin and Reduce Wrinkles.

While collagen is great for the entire body, it is incredibely beneficial to the skin. With the right amount of collagen, your skin can look and feel firm which in turn leads  to the visible reduction of fine lines and wrinkles. It also increases skin elasticity and moisture.

4. Boosts Hair and Nail Growth.

Our hair is made up of 91% protein!  Our bodies require these essential amino acids to make protein, so supplementing with collagen is very beneficial for hair growth! This is actually one of my main reasons for taking collagen.

5. Collagen Peptides Reduce Inflammation.

Collagen is rich in the amino acid glycine, which has been shown to reduce inflammation.

Inflammation is natural, but prolonged inflammation can lead to many health problems.

6. Cellulite

Did you know that 90% of all women have cellulite? This is due to the way our connective fibers are structured.  As we age,  these collagen bonds start to break down.  So supplementing with  collagen will help strengthen these collagen bonds and create firmer skin because there will be a stronger foundation there.

7. Speeds up weight loss

As an amazing source of protein, collagen makes you feel fuller for longer. In turn, it stops food cravings and helps us eat only when we are truly hungry.

Hi Dalia! I take it 2 times a day with either a smoothie, or coffee, or tea. Or you simply mix a tablespoon in a glass of water. It has no taste or smell. You can find it here https://livingtraditionallystore.com/beautiful-body/non-gmo-hydrolyzed-collagen-powder-16oz/

Hi Jina! I would recommend taking spirulina. It has the same anti aging effect. It restores your body to its optimal health. You can find organic spirulina here https://livingtraditionallystore.com/beautiful-body/organic-spirulina-powder-16-oz/

i Tried it a few times in a smoothie and found I had a terrible headache almost immediate. I’ve read it’s pretty common. Is there any other way to use other than digesting it?as I now have a whole bag still.

Hi Brian! Collagen is not exactly the same thing as gelatin. In the hydrolyzed form, the collagen is processed more intensively, which actually breaks up the proteins into smaller pieces. They both have the same amino acids, but different chemical properties. Collagen is better for you!

I use 1 Tablespoon of your Collagen in my daily smoothie. Should I be taking 2 tablespoons instead? Also, is this just as good as taking the supplements? Thank you!
