Most people believe that Subway is a healthy fast food chain. After all, they don’t use a deep fryer, they have wheat bread, and you can choose which fresh vegetables you want on your sandwich. However, this is not the case as a recent study shows. Researchers from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) found that adults who bought Subway meals consumed almost as many calories as they did at McDonald’s. But this is really not about the calories, it’s about the quality of food they serve.
Subway is still junk food. Subway still uses dangerous, toxic ingredients.

CHICKEN BREAST STRIPS Boneless, skinless chicken breast with rib meat; water, flavor (potassium chloride, maltodextrin, sugar, autolyzed yeast extract, gum arabic, molasses, flavors, salt, lactic acid, disodium guanylate and disodium inosinate, fructose, medium chain triglycerides, dextrose, succinic acid, vinegar solids, thiamine hydrochloride and artificial flavors), soy protein concentrate, modified potato starch, sodium phosphates, salt. Contains soy.

Contains eggs, milk and soy.
Let’s start with artificial colors and flavors
According to the FDA< “The term artificial flavor or artificial flavoring means any substance, the function of which is to impart flavor, which is not derived from a spice, fruit or fruit juice, vegetable or vegetable juice, edible yeast, herb, bark, bud, root, leaf or similar plant material, meat, fish, poultry, eggs, dairy products, or fermentation products thereof. Artificial flavor includes the substances listed in 172.515(b) and 582.60 of this chapter except where these are derived from natural sources.”
Basically, they are artificially created in a lab by the engineers they help adjust the desired taste.
The chemical substances used to create artificial flavors have been known to cause:
- Low testosterone in men
- Nervous system complications
- High blood pressure
- DNA mutations
Let’s take a look at TBHQ
TBHQ is a petroleum-based substance used to stop fats and oils from oxidizing. TBHQ is also used in butane lighters, lacquer and varnish. In fact TBHQ has been found to cause nausea, vomiting and tinnitus, or hearing loss.
Dimethylpolysiloxane is added to cooking oils as an anti-foaming agent which is also used in cosmetics, hair conditioners, silly putty and even in breast implants.
