When it comes to refusing harmful pesticides, the U.S. is largely behind the European Union (E.U.), China and Brazil, according to a study published in the journal Environmental Health. This year jury in Oakland, Calif., ordered Monsanto  to pay $2 billion in damages to a couple that got cancer after using Roundup.

Thousands of other lawsuits against Monsanto/Bayer are waiting to be processed in state and federal courts.

The couple, Alva and Alberta Pilliod, used Roundup on their Northern California property for years. In 2011, Mr. Pilliod, was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and  in 2015, his wife, got the same diagnose.
