Most of the home cleaning products are filled with harmful chemicals. The cleaning product industry makes over 50 billion dollars a year in the US – so these companies are concerned about making more money and not our health.
Conventional products contain these toxic ingredients
SODIUM LAURYL SULPHATE (SLS) – Detergent used as a moisturizer found in engines and in Agent Orange (which was used to kill vegetation and profoundly harmed human and animal life during and long after the Vietnam War.) SLS is used in research testing as a skin irritant to test the effectiveness of soothing products. Several studies state the harmful effects of their use: kidney and bladder infections, urinary infections, irritation to the eyes, skin and scalp, fertility problems, allergic reactions, lesions of the scalp and hair loss and is carcinogenic.
Cocamide DEA- This chemicals is used as an emulsifier and foaming base. Since 1979, the FDA has warned of its potential danger. A study by the American National Toxicology Program (NTP) in 1998, seriously condemned their use due to its cancer causing elements.
Cocamidopropyl- is a chemical derived from coconuts and is used as a foaming agent. Tom’s of Maine, lists some of the reactions to this chemical can cause irritated skin, rashes, and blistering skin
According to the HERA Project, which assesses the risks of ingredients in common household products, significant eye irritation can be suffered from contact with this chemical.
Parabens (methyl) – This chemical is widely used, even though its known to be extremely toxic, causing many allergic reactions and cutaneous eruptions.
Fragrance: According to the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, 90% or more of the chemicals in synthetic fragrance are derived from PETROCHEMICALS. The chemicals found in most “fragrance” can cause a person go into anaphylactic shock, migraines, asthma or allergy attack, and even chronic health issues.
Ext. violet 2- The “Ext.” mean for external applications only. The EWG (Environmental Working Group) warns this chemical is produced from petroleum or coal tar sources, and is a known human carcinogen. Coal tar dyes used in hair coloring products have been linked with bladder cancer.
Blue 1- is a petroleum-derived triphenylmethane. Hazardous to the skin, eye, respiratory and internal irritant.
If it accidentally makes contact with the eye, immediately flush eyes with plenty of cold water for at least 15 minutes and seek medical attention. In case of skin contact, immediately flush skin with plenty of water. Cover the irritated skin with an emollient and seek medical attention.
