May 9, 2023 by Anya Leave a Comment

While there is no doubt that antibiotics are effective treatments for many bacterial infections, they also have numerous side effects and you can develop resistance if you take them too often. We need to save antibiotic usage for emergency and cases where natural options are ineffective.

Natural antibiotics work similarly to antibiotics and possess powerful antibacterial properties, making them a great natural alternative to antibiotics.

5 Natural Antibiotics Hiding In Your Pantry

1. Raw Garlic

Garlic contains allicin. This is a strong antibiotic. It’s released when cloves are crushed or chewed. It has been used as an antiseptic, antibacterial, and antifungal agent. While there is no established dosage of garlic, several studies on raw garlic use 100 mg crushed raw garlic per kilogram of body weight twice per day. This equals around three to four cloves a day.

2. Horseradish Root

Research has found that the horseradish has an antibacterial component called allyl isothiocyanate. In recent studies, horseradish has been shown to kill harmful bacteria and microbes that result in infections. Moreover, horseradish can be used to treat urinary tract infections. One half to one teaspoon (3–5 grams) of the freshly grated root can be eaten three times per day.

3. Raw Honey

Honey (here) is one the oldest known antibiotics, tracing back to ancient times. Honey is a natural antibacterial and antimicrobial agent . The presence of hydrogen peroxide in honey possesses strong antibacterial properties. It contains  glucose oxidase and has a low pH level, which means it can kill harmful bacteria and fungi.  You can mix  2 tbsp of turmeric (find it here) with 1/2 cup of honey. Add 2 tbsp of grated ginger and mix. Grate in some lemon zest. Consume every 3 hours.

4. Coconut oil, extra virgin

Lauric acid is the primary fatty acid of coconut fat. This fatty acid is widely known for its antimicrobial properties. The body converts it into monolaurin, which contains antibiotic, antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral properties. The MCFAs disrupt the virus membranes preventing them from growing and maturing. Find it here

5. Onions

The antibacterial activity of onion is mostly due to the allicin. Consuming onions helps reduce mucus and respiratory infections. They are specifically high sulfur which possesses powerful antimicrobial properties that effectively fights various bacteria. Place cut onions in living spaces to clear bacteria. Additionally, putting sliced onions in your socks while you sleep will detox you from illness.
