As you enjoy the great outdoors this summer, make sure to protect yourself against ticks and bugs. Don’t let those pesky annoying creatures stop you. Make this simple all natural homemade solution that is safe for you and your pets!
Repellent for your pets:
Mix 1 cup of water with 2 cups of distilled white vinegar (here) in a spray bottle. Ticks hate the smell of vinegar! Spray directly onto your pets, but be careful not to get it in their eyes.
To make a repellent that will also protect from fleas, mix in cedarwood essential oil (here). This 2014 study states that Virginian Cedarwood can repel ants and kill ticks. Cedarwood essential oil is safe to use around on pets and children making it great for our homemade tick repellent.
Spray onto the pet’s dry coat, avoid eyes, nose, mouth, and genitals. You can spray this solution 2-3 times per day.
For you and your family:
Add 2 cups of distilled white vinegar and 1 cup of water to a spray bottle. You can also add 20 drops of your favorite essential oil which will make the solution smell better.
Eucalyptus oil (find it here) is a calm, soothing scent that is also effective against ticks.
After mixing the solution, spray onto clothing, shoes, skin, and hair before going outdoors. Reapply every four hours to keep ticks and other bugs away.
