Elderberry has become very popular as an effective supplement for fighting colds and flus. It really does wonders for the immune system. Elderberry is loaded with vitamin C, flavonoids, fruit acids, and anthocyanic pigments. It also exhibits incredible antiviral properties.
The scientists found that phytochemicals in elderberries are responsible for their flu fighting properties in particular, compounds called anthocyanidins.
These compounds boost the immune system and can directly prevent the flu virus from entering a person’s body. Additionally, they can prevent the virus from replicating within the cells.
Cranberries in this recipe also provide prebiotic fiber, which gives fuel to your body’s probiotics, beneficial bacteria found in your GI tract. Scientists found that cranberries could protect the gut microbiota, and provide antioxidant and anti-inflammatory functions that benefit the cardiovascular system, metabolism and immune function.
