May 9, 2022 by Anya Leave a Comment

Sugar is almost unavoidable in our modern society, but it has a drastic impact on our health. Studies have found that regular white sugar can have profound side effects including weight gain, heart disease, bad skin, diabetes, and even cancer.

That’s why many search for sugar alternatives which can no better that sugar itself or even worse.

This is why my sugar alternative is Monk fruit. It has  has ZERO calories, ZERO carbohydrates, and ZERO sugar. Monk fruit has a glycemic index of 0, making it a very healthy choice.

WHAT IS MONK FRUIT?

Monk fruit is a melon that was grown and enjoyed long ago by Buddhist luóhàn monks. This small, green fruit grows in southern China and is mainly used in teas and for medicinal use.

Why Monk Fruit Sweetener is the Healthiest

Monk fruit’s sweetness comes from chemicals called mogrosides, which the body processes differently from regular sugars like sucrose and fructose. Mogroside V is the one most abundant in monk fruit and it has been found to be 250 times sweeter than glucose.  Moreover, monk fruit extract ranks low on the Glycemic Index (GI), thus, it won’t cause spikes in blood sugar levels.

Mogrosides aren’t absorbed in the upper gastrointestinal tract; as a result, they don’t deliver any calories to the body.

The fruit’s mogrosides are said to be anti-inflammatory, and able to keep blood sugar levels stable.

Mogrosides  have been shown to exhibit strong antioxidant effects in test tubes (study ). Additionally,  studies show that low-calorie sweeteners such as monk fruit powder can help with weight loss or weight maintenance.
