How to Use Coffee to Dye Your Hair and Improve Your Hair Health

May 4, 2022 by Anya Leave a Comment

The harsh chemicals found in conventional dyes can do your hair more damage than good.  They contain  chemicals like DMDM hydantoin, methylisothiazolinone, and fragrance. One study of over 25,000 women found that the use of hair dye was associated with increased breast cancer incidence.

Have you ever thought of using coffee as a natural hair dye? Dying your hair with coffee is a great way to achieve that dark rich shade of brown. It is a natural, inexpensive method of hair coloring that only requires one ingredient: coffee!

Let’s be honest, most natural store bought  hair dyes (like this one)  can somewhat pricey. So, why not make your own dyes using only natural ingredients such as coffee?Natural ground coffee is an excellent natural tool to darken hair. With the help of coffee, dark hair can acquire a beautiful healthy glow and even naturally dye your hair.

Using Coffee to Improve your hair health

Coffee is an absolutely natural product, which possesses beneficial properties.

Washing your hair with coffee strengthens follicles, thus reducing the chances of hair loss. Coffee can also help with improving your hair texture! According to a study published in the January 2007 issue of the International Journal of Dermatology, coffee indeed helps with hair growth.

How to use coffee to dye your hair

  • Brew the coffee. It needs to be really strong organic coffee ( I use this one) .  Non organic coffee is loaded with toxic chemicals.
  • Let your coffee cool down.
  • Combine 2 cups of leave in all natural conditioner with 2 tbsp. of organic coffee grounds and 1 cup of cold brewed coffee.
  • Apply the dye to your hair and Cover your hair with the plastic cap and allow the dye to sit on your hair for at least an hour. The longer the dye penetrates your hair strands, the darker the color will be.

Simple Coffee Rinse

Shampoo your hair first and then pour coffee over your hair. Leave it in for 20 minutes. Use apple cider vinegar to rinse the coffee out of your hair (it will help  seal in the color). Then rinse it off with warm water.
