Check Your Detergent! The Most Toxic Laundry Detergent Brands to Avoid

October 25, 2018 by Anya 4 Comments

Most laundry detergents contain chemicals that are extremely toxic to the health and irritating to the skin. These  dangerous chemicals remain in your clothes after a wash cycle and are able penetrate your skin. In fact, each time you sweat your body absorbs the residue of detergents that your fabrics contain. Take a look at the worst laundry detergent brands that can severely damage your health.

Laundry Detergents Cause Lung Failure and Heart Attacks

Laundry detergents  with “Febreze” are perhaps  the worst detergents on  market because of the main ingredient – dichlorobenzene. This extremely cancer causing solvent is used to manufacture paint thinners. It is labeled under the marketing name “Febreze”.  Our bodies absorb this chemical through both the lungs and the skin. The chemicals of “Febreze” cause respiratory issues and sudden heart attacks.

Another dangerous chemical is Nonylphenol. It  is a byproduct of a chemical that is used in laundry detergents. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, it has been detected in human breast milk, blood, and urine. It’s been found to  cause adverse reproductive and developmental effects.

One of the most harmful chemicals found in laundry detergent is 1,4-Dioxane. This chemical, which is found in paints  is found in popular brands of laundry detergent like Tide. The National Institutes of Health states that 1,4-dioxane is “reasonably expected to be a human carcinogen”, because it has been consistently proven to cause cancers in animal studies. It also causes kidney, liver, and nervous system damage.  Most recent research shows that it accumulates in the body over time.

PROTECT YOUR BODY FROM CANCER AND OTHER DISEASES WITH WHEATGRASS

The biggest nutritional plus for adding wheatgrass to your daily routine is the fact that it’s loaded with  chlorophyll.

It helps to regulate many important functions in the human body which include hormone balance, detoxification, blood clotting and wound healing. You can find the best organic kind here

Chlorophyll is a very effective cancer-preventer because  it can help to clean and oxygenate the blood. A 2012 study published in the journal Inflammation discovered that chlorophyll reduced production of in vitro pro-inflammatory cytokines.

I am happy to see that the effects of laundry detergents are being noticed. I have experienced illness for years and feel that it probably impacts children at school and those who are sick in hospitals. The impact on our communities is probably significant but not acknowledged. As with dryer sheets and another chemical base that makes me ill and again I am sure it impacts people without there awareness.

Great information. It would be super helpful to also include the GOOD ONES that we can buy. Often the lists are only bad news brands and you leave the reader with homework to go shopping with a list of chemicals that we shouldn’t buy and to be honest, it would be equally enlightening to provide both the good and the bad list. I personally will not look at each and every container and try to determine which one has most of the bad checmicals as part of my weekly shopping. Love your site but its never easy to walk away from it with anything positive products to look for.
