What Happens to Your Body When You Put Essential Oils on the Bottom of Your Feet

August 14, 2018 by Anya 1 Comment

Why do we put essential oils on the bottom of our feet?  I get this question a lot and depending on what you use them for, there are many beneficial ways to use the oils for the most benefits, but using essential oils on your feet might in fact be the most effective way. Rubbing the oils onto the soles of your feet is becoming very popular and it’s often combined with foot reflexology and massage therapy.

Let’s take a look at these  incredible benefits of applying  therapeutic grade essential oils, on the bottom of your feet

Rubbing essential oils on the bottom of your feet is very effective because your soles are major absorption points

The pores on our feet are so large that essential oils can quickly pass through layers of skin and release their benefits into the body more efficiently. In fact, the oil can be transported in every cell of the body within 20 minutes! Additionally, the bottoms of our feet are less sensitive because they have to endure more on a daily basis

The soles of the feet and the palms of the hand are the only sites on our body without Sebaceous Glands.

Since Sebum is an oily substance it would actually further “shield” the body from absorption of anything. Since the palms and the soles do not secrete sebum, they are more ready to absorb oil.  Do not want to apply oils on “sweaty” hands or feet. Dry them off first so that the EO is not repelled by the water.

REFLEXOLOGY and Massage Therapy with Essential oils

Did you know that each foot has 7,200 nerve endings? Every nerve line in the body ends in the feet.  Mayo Clinic states  that studies  found, reflexology could “reduce pain and psychological symptoms such as anxiety, depression, and enhance relaxation and sleep,” due to the fact that every one of our nerve linings end in our footing.

I highly recommend every night  before bedtime you apply essential oils with a relaxing foot massage.

 Less Irritation and Sensitivities

Using essential oils on feet is very beneficial for kids and people with sensitive skin.   The soles of our feet have thick skin thus the feet are less sensitive allowing us to use any oil without dilution.

How to Apply Essential Oils to Feet

It’s very easy to do! Drip, dilute (if needed) and rub them on. That’s it.
