A Magic Elderberry Elixir: Boost the Immune system, Prevent the Flu or Colds, Alleviate Mucus and Soothe Sore Throats

Hippocrates, the father of medicine, called the elder tree his “medicine chest” due to its limitless healing properties and uses.

Studies have discovered that a commercial preparation of elderberry extract called Sambucol is more effective than other over-the-counter medication at shortening the duration and severity of the flu.

In a recent study, sixty people with influenza were divided into two groups: one was directed to take 15 ml of elderberry syrup four times a day, and the other group was given conventional treatment. At the end of the study, people who took elderberry syrup improved symptomatically within two to four days, whereas for the other group, it took between seven to eight days.

Thus, it’s not surprising that so many people swear by elderberries which have been known to boost the immune system, prevent the flu or colds, alleviate excessive mucus and soothe sore throats.

Elderberry Elixir

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups elderberries
  • 3 cups brandy or vodka
  • 1 cup organic honey (find it here)

Method:

Fill a quart jar half full with elderberries. Pour enough alcohol to fill the jar ¾ full and then top with honey. Stir the honey (here) in with the berries until fully mixed. Top off with more honey until the jar is full and stir again. Close the jar. Allow to sit for 3 weeks and shake daily. After 3 weeks strain the berries.

Take 1 -3 teaspoons daily to help with a cold or the flu.
